Going to a Tea Party? WARNING - Beware of Poison Kool-Aid
For decades the enemies of morality and freedom have been lusting to get their hands on our U.S. Constitution through an Article V Constitutional Convention (Con-Con). In the early 1990’s I, along with Dr. Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum and the leaders of hundreds of other constitutionally-minded organizations, spear-headed the exposing of the extreme dangers related to the calling of a Con-Con. At that time America was only 2 states away from the 34 needed for a Convention to be triggered. Since then, a few states have rescinded their extant calls, but we are still perilously close.
Please, do not consider me “opposition” to the principles in the “Bill of Federalism”. I do not oppose those principles. My purpose in writing is to brief you fully as to the constitutional implications of an Article V Con-Con being called. The principles embodied in the Bill of Federalism are supported by the hundreds of thousands of tea party patriots. At many Tea Parties, their support of those principles is being hijacked into the appearance of popular support for a Con-Con itself.
Professor Randy Barnett, Wall Street Journal Columnist and Georgetown University Law Professor, is being disingenuous in casually dismissing the possibility of ever getting 2/3 of the States’ Legislatures to call for a Con-Con. He is not stupid. He knows that only a few more states are needed for the U.S. Constitution to be scraped and replaced with a far more New World Order friendly document.
A convention once convened will make its own rules, decide its own agenda, and adopt its own articles. It will be under no obligation to even consider such government limiting principles as are in his “Bill of Federalism”. The new document will not be sent back to the States’ Legislatures for ratification but rather to specially-selected ratifying committees. An Article V Convention would be a socialist free-for-all-shark-feeding-frenzy on our Bill of Rights. The problem is not with the Constitution - it’s with CONGRESS NOT OBEYING it! The principles of the Bill of Federalism will be denied even the light of day—let alone serious consideration. If the tea party participants across America are successful in pressuring constitutionally uninformed state legislators to call for and trigger a Con-Con, well intended organizers will have been personally responsible in the surrender of our sacred constitution out of a misguided all-be-it patriotic enthusiasm. Please don’t let this happen.
Don’t take my word for it. Consider the warnings of eminent constitutional scholars like Chief Warren Burger: “...there is no way to limit or muzzle a constitutional convention. It will make its own rules. The convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda. Congress might try to limit the Convention to one amendment or to one issue, but there is no way to assure that the Convention would obey. After a Convention is convened, it will be too late to stop the Convention if we don’t like its agenda...A new Convention could plunge our Nation into constitutional confusion and confrontation at every turn, with no assurance that focus would be on the subjects needing attention.” Please watch the thorough 36 minute, 4-part video “Beware Article V” on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za8_pdJ1dPo
